Preschool Programs

Our Preschool Program consists of four classes with progressive curriculum for ages 18 months through pre-kindergarten. Our classroom routines are designed to be consistent from age group to age group, with increasing complexity as children age.

We love to see our Toute Petite Section students (18 months) grow from when they learn their first letters and numbers to when they begin reading and writing independently in Grande Section.

MS students expand their knowledge of academic concepts and social skills through French language immersion. The curriculum includes topics such as basic math, handwriting skills, letter recognition and phonics, and awareness of the natural world. Most students begin to read at the syllabic level during the year. Activities frequently allow children to produce creatively and improve their fine and gross motor skills.

The morning portion of the program is taught entirely in French. Families can add Afternoon English by enrolling in All Day Preschool.

Note: Children do not need to be potty trained in order to enter the Moyenne Section.

GS students further develop academic concepts and social skills through French language immersion. Topics include intermediate math skills, use of upper and lower-case letters, basic cursive recognition, and sentence building. Some students begin to read and write independently during the year. Students continue to grow in their creative expression.

The morning portion of the program is taught entirely in French. Families can add Afternoon English by enrolling in All Day Preschool.

  • 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM

Students in this program start the day in their morning program classroom. Depending on the number of students enrolled in All Day Preschool, classes may combine for lunch, a short rest period, English class, and recess.

In English class, students focus on the mechanics of the English language. Every two weeks, a theme-based children’s literature book is chosen to guide learning activities that encourage and develop reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Note: This class is not available to Toute Petite Section and Petite Section.

Does your family need additional care, such as early morning drop off or after school care?

Supplemental Care

We strive to make our programs accessible to all families. We realize many families need additional services to access our programs.

Some families choose for their child to attend La Petite Ecole in the mornings only and need transportation to other child care options mid-day. Other families need at school care before or after school.

We provide these additional services during the academic year. These services are provided to students enrolled in daytime programs. Extra fees apply for all of these services. Parents may sign up ahead of time or use these services on a drop-in basis (upon approval). Please note - some services may be unavailable at certain times of the year, or due to circumstances beyond our control. See the Family Handbook in the Family Corner for detailed policies regarding enrollment, drop-in availability, fees, and invoicing.

  • Students enrolled at La Petite Ecole may arrive as early as 7:30 AM to accommodate families with early-morning obligations.

  • Students enrolled in morning programs may extend their day on a drop-in basis and may stay at school until 1 PM. Ask upon enrollment for updated Emergency Lunch procedures.

  • Available to children enrolled in morning classes who need rest after lunch, typically Toute Petite Section and Petite Section students. Discuss options upon enrollment.

  • All students enrolled at the school, including all preschool and elementary programs, may enroll in After School Care to extend pickup times to 5:30 PM.

After School Care includes enrichment activities, snack, and extended outdoor recess and indoor free play time.

  • Unfortunately, we are unable to offer transportation at this time. Please check back for updates in the future.

When available, we offer transportation to select schools and day cares for families that prefer complementary care. Language Club students also often use transportation to and from their regular school for an extra fee.
