Elementary Program

Students receive individualized, one-on-one direct instruction correlating to their personal skill level. We offer programs suitable for children Kindergarten through Grade 5.

Although Kindergarten is not mandatory in the State of Missouri, most parents elect to enroll their child in an academic setting (public or private) prior to entering First Grade. Columbia Public Schools has acknowledged that successful completion of Kindergarten at La Petite Ecole meets the district requirements for entrance into First Grade. Of course, we would love for students to continue First Grade with us!

Our students’ reading and writing skills meet and exceed common grade level expectations. By tailoring the curriculum to match individual needs, each student enjoys learning and wants and is able to learn. Students read and write in both script and cursive. They choose books that appeal to them and that are exactly at their proficiency level. They become exceptionally creative writers with remarkable spelling skills. Students will read and write, in both French and English, with greater comprehension and ability. We love watching our students progress from their first day to the last day of the year.

All activities, including planned curriculum and free-play, encourage social development, problem solving skills, and foster individual creativity. Personal growth, positive work habits and strong work ethics continue to be modeled and incorporated throughout the day. Our students are constantly challenged to achieve their highest potential, and we are always amazed by their abilities!

Does your family need additional care, such as early morning drop off or after school care?

Supplemental Care

We strive to make our programs accessible to all families. We realize many families need additional services to access our programs.

Some families choose for their child to attend La Petite Ecole in the mornings only and need transportation to other child care options mid-day. Other families need at school care before or after school.

We provide these additional services during the academic year. These services are provided to students enrolled in daytime programs. Extra fees apply for all of these services. Parents may sign up ahead of time or use these services on a drop-in basis (upon approval). Please note - some services may be unavailable at certain times of the year, or due to circumstances beyond our control. See the Family Handbook in the Family Corner for detailed policies regarding enrollment, drop-in availability, fees, and invoicing.

  • Students enrolled at La Petite Ecole may arrive as early as 7:30 AM to accommodate families with early-morning obligations.

  • Students enrolled in morning programs may extend their day on a drop-in basis and may stay at school until 1 PM. Ask upon enrollment for updated Emergency Lunch procedures.

  • Available to children enrolled in morning classes who need rest after lunch, typically Toute Petite Section and Petite Section students. Discuss options upon enrollment.

  • All students enrolled at the school, including all preschool and elementary programs, may enroll in After School Care to extend pickup times to 5:30 PM.

After School Care includes enrichment activities, snack, and extended outdoor recess and indoor free play time.

  • Unfortunately, we are unable to offer transportation at this time. Please check back for updates in the future.

When available, we offer transportation to select schools and day cares for families that prefer complementary care. Language Club students also often use transportation to and from their regular school for an extra fee.
